Trimester 1

Introduction to Art Media and Concepts

  • Unit 1.1


The student will learn about the art element line.


The student will create a composition using only lines, naming the different types of lines used in compositions.


The student will create a composition using a free-form narrative line composition.


The student will create a landscape using only line.


Student will use lines to create art element shape and define shape.


  • Unit 1.2


The student will learn about the art element shape using lines.


The student will create a composition using shapes.


The student will create a wax resist composition using oil pastels and watercolor.


The student will learn about art media oil pastels.


Student will learn about paint-brush usage.


Student will create a composition using art elements line and shape.


Students will learn about chalk usage and how to make marks with it on paper.

Trimester 2

Exploration of Art Media

Students will learn about new media/ techniques with familiar media.


Students will trace a form.


Student will cut a form based on a traced design.


Learn to use liquid glue.

Students will continue to learn about new media/ techniques with familiar media.


A. Students will learn to manipulate paper without scissors.

C. Students will use liquid tempera paint.


D. Students will create mixed media compositions.


Trimester 3

Drawing with Intent

  • Unit 3.1


The student will decide what they plan to draw and then explain the aspects of their drawing, such as the details of the house or the features of the face or animal.


The student will demonstrate better motor control when using art tools.
