Trimester 1


Students will create a high contrast design using black and white to demonstrate contrast. (Bridget Riley Optical Illusions)


Students will create an abstract collage using a limited palette of cut paper to practice the principle of design. (Alexander Calder, Matisse, Miro)


Students will create a static line design.  Using repetition of lines to create rhythm.  


Victorian Architecture


Trimester 2


The student will draw draw shapes using texture and combined media (watercolor and crayon) such as owl.  The student will connect their drawing to illustration in a book.  

 

The student will use shading to add dimension and details to their drawing, such as drawing a cardinal from actual photographs.

The student will examine will examine Native  American pottery and shields and then replicate the cultural patterns and design. 

Trimester 3

The student will use their previous knowledge of architectural styles to create a more new style, such as a futuristic representation.  The student will discuss the change using art terminology such as shape, texture, materials, etc and explain their design to peers. 


The student will use their previous knowledge of shape, texture, materials,  and color along with a new application of perspective drawing to create a natural look, such as Irish landscape.

The student will create a letter logo and use color to affect the impact of the design as used in advertising.


The student will study complimentary colors through a flip-over design (reflection over a line).
